La tremenda crisis generada por la pandemia del coronavirus ha desnudado las enormes desigualdades y desequilibrios sociales en el todo el mundo creados por el neoliberalismo que se convirtió en dominante en la década de los años 90 del siglo pasado, después que cayeran los regímenes socialistas de la Europa Oriental, como si con esta caída el capitalismo salvaje hubiera adquirido patente de corso para destruir toda la acción del Estado en la economía tendiente a generar equidad, equilibrio y bienestar general, que habían sido predicadas por las tesis keynesianas después del gran crack de 1929, y contribuyeron a gestar una especie de “capitalismo humano”, si esto fuera posible, que disminuyó los niveles de pobreza y miseria en el mundo durante los un poco más 40 años de su reinado desde 1945 hasta 1990. En estos 30 años de hegemonía neoliberal, las diferencias entre ricos y pobres se dispararon. Hoy el 1% más rico posee más capital que el 99% restante. Los 26 mayores multimillonarios del mundo tienen tanto dinero como los 3.800 millones más pobre del planeta. El 50% de la población vive con menos de US$ 5.5 diarios. El 10% más pobre aporta más impuestos a los estados que el 10% más rico por efecto de las exenciones tributarias de estos. Más de 262 millones de niños en el mundo no están escolarizados como consecuencia de su pobreza. Diez mil pobres mueren diariamente de enfermedades curables por falta de atención médica y hospitalaria.
Como era de esperarse, los pobres han sido las mayores víctimas del Covid 19. Su salud es precaria, muchos viven desnutridos, en sus hogares hay hacinamiento, un alto porcentaje vive del rebusque y debe salir a la calle a conseguir su sustento diario, exponiéndose al contagio. En Norteamérica los afrodescendientes y los inmigrantes latinos han sido los más afectados. En Europa los inmigrantes africanos y latinos. Las naciones con gobernantes de derecha, que pocas bolas le han parado al confinamiento, es donde hoy la pandemia causa más daño como Estados Unidos, Brasil e Inglaterra. Para estos gobernantes es más importante la economía que la vida. Las grandes empresas pueden reemplazar los pobres muertos con robots.
Definitivamente el malestar político y la inconformidad social, que fue notoria en muchos países durante los dos últimos años, podrá despertar nuevamente después que se levanten los confinamientos y provocar grandes estallidos populares, si los gobiernos no asumen responsablemente la tarea de reactivar la economía, buscando la equidad y el bienestar general de todos sus ciudadanos.
