La senadora de la Unión Patriótica, Aida Avella, estará en el Huila al finalizar esta semana. Vendrá acompañada de la representante a la Cámara Ángela Robledo o del senador Gustavo Bolívar, ambos integrantes de la coalición de Decentes en el Congreso y miembros activos de la Colombia Humana que dirige Gustavo Petro. En la mañana del viernes 22 dará entrevistas a diversos medios de comunicación de la ciudad, al medio día compartirá un almuerzo de la solidaridad en el segundo piso del restaurante Barbacoas y a las 2:30 de la tarde presidirá un acto político en el auditorio Rodrigo Lara Bonilla de la Asamblea Departamental del Huila. El día sábado 23 se desplazará muy temprano a Villavieja donde tendrá una asamblea de amigos y simpatizantes, a las dos de la tarde se reunirá con la huestes upeistas del municipio de Rivera y a las 6:00 PM presidirá otra manifestación en La Plata. El domingo 24 a las 8:30 de la mañana estará en una concentración en el sitio Las Piscinas del municipio de Isnos. A las 12:00 del día tendrá un almuerzo en Pitalito con empresarios y líderes de la ciudad y a las 2:00 PM intervendrá en un acto político.
Aida Avella Esquivel, es una de las personalidades más destacadas de la izquierda colombiana. Fundadora de la Unión Patriótica en el año 1985, dirigente sindical y directiva de Fenaltrase, constituyente en 1991, concejal de Bogotá en 1992. En 1996 sufrió un atentado terrorista del que afortunadamente salió ilesa, pero a raíz de las múltiples amenazas contra su vida, se refugió en Suiza donde vivió durante 17 años. Regresó al país en el 2013 con motivo de la recuperación de la personería jurídica de la UP, ocupando la presidencia del partido desde ese momento. En la campaña electoral del 2014, fue la formula vicepresidencial de Clara López en una coalición de la UP con el Polo Democrático que obtuvo 2.000.000 de votos. En 2018 resultó electa senadora en la coalición de los decentes, cargo que ocupa en la actualidad.
La presidente de la Unión Patriótica no es un personaje extraño al Huila. Su señora madre nació en Campoalegre, su primer trabajo después de graduarse como psicóloga en la Universidad Nacional fue de profesora en la Normal Superior de Neiva y a pesar de haber nacido en Sogamoso, se considera tan opita como cualquiera de quienes nacimos en el Huila. Ese es un motivo adicional para recibirla con entusiasmo y alegría el próximo fin de semana.
