El ecosistema parque natural regional Serranía de Minas, que hace parte de los municipios de La Argentina, Oporapa, Pital, La Plata y Tarqui, en el sur del Huila, cumplió 10 años de hacer sido declarado como zona protegida.
Con un área de 29.092 hectáreas es de importancia ecosistémica en la producción de agua y hábitat para una gran cantidad de especies de fauna y flora silvestre, algunos en estado de amenaza.
El análisis científico revela que en sus bosques abundan los robledales, especialmente el blanco (Quercus humboldtii) aunque se puede hallar garrucho, encenillo, algodón y palma de cera.
En la fauna que predomina en el área protegida, objeto de conservación, se encuentra el mono Churuco (Lagotrhix lagotricha), como el Oso Andino (Tremarctos ornatus), la Danta de Montaña (Tapirus pinchaque) y el Águila Crestada (Oroaetus isidoris).
La población de los 5 municipios que conforman el Parque Regional se beneficia del agua que provee esta área natural, que además opera como área amortiguadora del Macizo Colombiano.

La Corporación Autónoma Regional del Alto Magdalena, como autoridad ambiental y la Alcaldía de Oporapa, celebraron este décimo aniversario de la declaratoria del Parque Regional Natural Serranía de Minas, con actos culturales, académicos y ambientales.
El acto realizado en el área urbana de Oporapa, se caracterizó por la promoción la importancia de los bienes ambientales que ofrece este Parque Regional y la necesidad de conservarlo. En ese sentido, la CAM desarrolló varias capacitaciones en instituciones educativas y comunidad que reside en la zona de influencia de este ecosistema.
