En visita al Parque Nacional Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete, el Presidente Juan Manuel Santos anunció que el área de este parque tendrá millón y medio de hectáreas más.
“Ya estamos terminando los estudios para agregarle un millón y medio más de hectáreas protegidas del Parque Nacional de Chiribiquete. Quedaría en 4 millones 300 mil hectáreas protegidas”, expresó el Mandatario de los colombianos durante el recorrido de ese lugar donde se concentra una parte importante de la biodiversidad del mundo.
El Presidente Santos manifestó que “la Amazonia colombiana y la Amazonia de América Latina, de Suramérica, es el pulmón más importante del mundo” y agregó que “el Parque de Chiribiquete –lo dicen todos los científicos– es donde confluyen muchas de las culturas y de las biodiversidades que se han generado a través de los siglos”.
Así mismo, recordó el compromiso del Gobierno Nacional por cuidar y preservar las áreas de especial protección del país.
“Cuando comenzamos el Gobierno, este parque tenía un millón 300 mil hectáreas protegidas. A los pocos años, dos años de Gobierno, más que lo duplicamos, más del doble. Lo subimos a 2 millones 800 mil, que es más o menos el tamaño de un país como Bélgica”, afirmó el Jefe del Estado.
El Parque Nacional actualmente cuenta con cerca de 500 mil hectáreas que fueron entregadas a comunidades indígenas para la preservación y conservación de la zona.
“Aquí en este mismo lugar les entregamos a las comunidades étnicas cerca de 500 mil hectáreas para que se conviertan en los protectores del parque”, dijo el Presidente.
