Inició la segunda fase de las Maratones de Lectura, que se extenderá hasta el 7 de octubre, buscando que los colegios impulsen actividades de lectura mínimo por 1 hora diaria durante 30 días, para fomentar el comportamiento lector en los estudiantes.
Durante esta fase pueden participar 141.695 estudiantes y 620 colegios inscritos de seis departamentos de la Región Centro Sur. Durante las Maratones de agosto los cinco autores más leídos fueron: Gabriel García Márquez, Rafael Pombo, Keiko Kasza, Hermanos Grimm y Charles Perrault.

En la primera fase de las Maratones de Lectura, realizada en agosto, las instituciones I.E Los Pinos (Florencia, Caquetá), I.E San Sebastián (La Plata, Huila), I.E Técnica Gabriela Mistral (Melgar, Tolima) y la I.E Santa Teresa de Jesús (Ibagué, Tolima) ocuparon la posición No. 1, 2, 7 y 19 (respectivamente) de los 20 colegios más lectores del país, los cuales recibirán como incentivo una colección de 100 libros.
Este año, los tres estudiantes de colegios oficiales que más lean en las Maratones de Lectura serán invitados a conocer 3 destinos literarios en Europa: Portugal, España y Francia, con todos los gastos pagos.
