Una cosa es la información que, para el periodista ético, es sagrada. O debería serlo. Otra cosa el periodismo de opinión que que se ejercita en las notas editoriales que se publican en medios impresos como periódicos y revistas donde, además de la nota editorial, se publican columnas de opinión en que se expresan los diferentes criterios.

Es la información que, por el hecho de dirigida a la población en general, exige el apego responsable a la verdad. Hagamos un breve ejercicio para demostrar la altísima responsabilidad de los periodistas y de los medios frente a la comunidad de una ciudad, un departamento o un país.

El periodista que tiene su cargo la información ya en sea periódico, una cadena radial o una cadena de T.V. , tiene en sus manos un poder muy grande con conque se puede hacer mucho bien o, al contrario, causar mucho mal. Podría, si así lo quisiera convocar al orden o llamar al desorden. Convocar a la paz o incitar a la guerra, salvar una ciudad o reducirla a cenizas; llamar a la desobediencia civil, incitar al saqueo actuar con violencia contra personas de determinada filiación o afiliación política.

Las preocupante consiste en que gran parte de quienes ejercen el oficio y trabajan en medios. no han recibido formación alguna encaminada a adquirir conciencia del poder que pueden tener los medios, así como la responsabilidad con que deben utilizarse.

Resulta muy preocupante el hecho de que, para ejercer el periodismo no de requiere título académico, cualquiera pueda ingresar a una tienda de artículos electrónicos, comprar una grabadora o un celular, para salir «graduado de periodista» e irse a ejercer la profesión.

Por fortuna hay universidades con facultades y programas de comunicación y periodismo, que forman profesionales de la rama. También e visto, con agrado, que las empresas de comunicación e información, en buena medida, contratan periodistas con título universitario.
