Para destacar la función esencial del líquido vital para todo ser viviente del planeta tierra, y propiciar mejoras en la población que sufre problemas de suministro, se festeja anualmente, el 22 de marzo,  El Día Mundial del Agua.​ 

En regiones colombianas como el Huila, la autoridad ambiental, concentró el festejo en la zona sur con una Caminata al Parque Natural Serranía de Peñas Blancas «Despensa de Agua del Sur del Departamento, que articula las Alcaldías de Pitalito, Timaná y la CAM

La autoridad ambiental regional desarrolla en Neiva, jornada de limpieza y recolección de residuos en la Quebrada La Cucaracha de Neiva, organizada por la Red de Jóvenes de Ambiente Nodo Neiva, yun  taller sobre Conservación del Recurso Hídrico y siembra de árboles en el Albergue Infantil Mercedes Liévano  y otro sobre Ahorro y Uso Eficiente del Recurso Hídrico y concurso de carteleras ecológicas La institución Educativa Agustín Codazzi; esta última actividad se repetirá en la parte alta de la cuenca del río Las Ceibas, afluente que surte de agua a los neivanos,  en los centro educativos de Santa Helena, Chapuro, Floragaita y El Centro.
