Una venada colorada (Mazama rufina), fue rescatada, tras ser perseguida por perros de caza y auxiliada por familia campesina de Riecitos del centro poblado San Adolfo, Acevedo Huila, que de inmediato se comunicó con funcionarios de la Red de Control al Tráfico de Flora y Fauna, RED-CAM.
«Unos perros nos alertaron cuando perseguían un animal, al darnos cuenta que era un venado lo protegimos y buscamos que la CAM viniera a liberarlo», señaló María Lourdes Barrera Correa, quien durante dos días, en su humilde vivienda, alimentó y protegió a la venada, no sólo del ataque de los perros sino de varios cazadores que querían hacerle daño.
Mario Enrique Suárez Rodríguez, veterinario de la CAM, señaló que la venada está en óptimas condiciones, y la liberaron en un área protegida de Pitalito, sur del Huila.
Aunque el grado de amenaza de la especie en Colombia está catalogado como ‘menor’, la tendencia poblacional actual del mamífero es desconocida, lo que alerta a los investigadores ambientales para iniciar estudios sobre esta especie a nivel nacional.
