Las pequeñas empresas mineras de Santander, Antioquia y Huila, que hacen parte de la Iniciativa Oro Responsable recibirán más de $371 millones para aliviar problemas generados por el confinamiento a causa del Coronavirus.
El recurso lo proporcionó la Cooperación Económica y Desarrollo (SECO) de la Embajada de Suiza y la Asociación Suiza de Oro Responsable – SBGA – (por las siglas en inglés), y permitirá que, las 8 empresas vinculadas al proyecto paguen salarios y prestaciones sociales a más de 450 empleados que conforman la plantilla de ocupación.
Las empresas beneficiadas atraviesan difícil situación por cuenta del COVID-19, que las obligó a reducir las operaciones o suspenderlas, desde el inicio del aislamiento obligatorio en Colombia, pero los recursos que reciben y que no son reembolsables les permite seguir con su operación normal, pese a las restricciones impuestas por el Poder Central.
“Las medidas de apoyo comprenden, además del acompañamiento para la implementación de protocolos de bioseguridad, un apoyo financiero que permita alivianar el flujo de caja de las operaciones y al mismo tiempo, salvaguardar empleos y mantener la producción de oro durante este difícil periodo, así como fortalecer los lazos de cooperación y trabajo conjunto para la producción de Oro Responsable entre Suiza y Colombia”, explicó Thomas Hentschel, director global de la Iniciativa Oro Responsable – BGI – (por las siglas en inglés).
Con cuatro de las mayores refinerías de oro, Suiza concentra en su territorio el 60% de la capacidad mundial de procesamiento de oro y uno de los principales compradores de este metal para usarlo como componente en la fabricación de reconocidas piezas de joyería, relojería, así como los lingotes bancarios. La SBGA integra a los principales actores del mercado de oro suizos interesados en comprar un oro responsable con el medio ambiente y producido bajo los mejores estándares sociales y laborales.
“Un apoyo de éste es algo que uno ve pocas veces y es muy importante para ayudar a la empresa a mantener el personal en sus puestos de trabajo, también les ayuda a los mineros a que tengan un sustento para sus familias. Voces de apoyo a nuestra labor son pocas y por eso programas como estos nos dan ganas de seguir adelante y seguir comprometidos con el proyecto de producir oro responsablemente”, aseguró Rodolfo Contreras Moreno, gerente de Reina de Oro S.A.S, ubicada en Santander y donde trabajan 74 mineros
LA INICIATIVA
Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA) y la Cooperación Económica y Desarrollo (SECO) de la Embajada de Suiza promueven la creación de cadenas de valor para el oro proveniente de fuentes responsables en minas artesanales y de pequeña escala en tres países (Colombia, Perú y Bolivia) a través de la iniciativa Oro Responsable (BGI), que brinda asistencia técnica a las operaciones de la minería de oro artesanal y de pequeña escala para mejorar sus estándares ambientales, sociales y laborales con el fin de que puedan acceder al mercado suizo de oro premium.
La Iniciativa de Oro Responsable (BGI) está comprometida con el apoyo a operaciones de minería a pequeña escala que respetan los derechos humanos (prevención del trabajo infantil, prevención de tratos crueles, inhumanos o degradantes, prevención del apoyo a grupos al margen de la ley), buenas prácticas laborales y sociales (formalización, derecho de asociación, salud y seguridad ocupacional, igualdad de género, relaciones con la comunidad) y el respeto por el medio ambiente (eliminación del mercurio, manejo de colas/relaves, uso del cianuro, respeto a la biodiversidad).
