En un año en que el movimiento sindical de Cali y de Valle del Cauca ha sufrido asesinatos, atentados y amenazas, y solo una semana después de que varios de estos líderes recibieran un mensaje amenazante, llegó en forma de sufragio una nueva amenaza de muerte en contra de José Sánchez, Wilson Sáenz, Julián Lozano, Jimmy Núñez, Iván Vélez y Aldemar Buitrago.
Los hechos se presentaron pocos días después de que la Oficina de la ONU para los Derechos Humanos en Cali realizara el acto de conmemoración del Día Internacional de los Derechos Humanos, en conjunto con muchas organizaciones sociales y sindicales, y varios de los líderes hoy amenazados.
La Oficina solicita al Estado, que por medio de un esfuerzo interinstitucional y disponiendo de todos los recursos técnicos y humanos necesarios, investigue estas amenazas e identifique y sancione a sus autores. Este es un reto inaplazable, pues no existirán verdaderas garantías para el trabajo de los defensores y defensoras de derechos humanos en Colombia mientras no se disminuyan de manera sensible los muy altos índices de impunidad frente a las agresiones que de tiempo atrás vienen sufriendo.
El 9 de diciembre el Sr. Michel Forst, Relator Especial sobre la situación de las y los defensores de derechos humanos, hizo la siguiente exhortación: “En nuestra lucha por la libertad, la igualdad y la justicia, es crucial que empoderemos y protejamos a quienes defienden los derechos humanos – nuestros héroes, nuestros centinelas quienes libran la batalla por nuestros derechos humanos.
Se merecen nuestro apoyo incondicional”.
La Oficina también confía en que la sociedad colombiana contribuirá a garantizar la integridad de los defensores y defensoras, y unas óptimas condiciones para el desarrollo de su labor. La Oficina espera que sea una prioridad que estos seis sindicalistas amenazados cuenten con la protección integral a su vida y a su actividad.
