En reciente columna, Jorge Gómez Pinilla se preguntaba: el periodismo, ¿para qué? Y aunque dio pistas que bien podrían servir para responder el interrogante, aquí intento entregar otros con los que se pueda dar respuesta a tan sustancial pregunta.
El periodismo colombiano atraviesa por una profunda crisis de credibilidad, al menos en esferas sociales cuyos miembros cuentan con el capital social y cultural que les permite hacer disquisiciones que desembocan no solo en preguntas como la señalada, sino en cuestionamientos directos a las empresas mediáticas y a los periodistas que cubren hechos públicos y que cobijan intereses corporativos, personales o políticos.
Son contados por millones los colombianos que todavía creen a pie juntillas en lo que dicen noticieros como RCN, Caracol y CM&, para señalar a los más afectos al régimen. Esos colombianos, carentes de capacidad para controvertir el discurso noticioso, son los mismos que dijeron NO en el plebiscito del 2 de octubre de 2016. Son los mismos que creyeron en enunciados como el “rayo homosexualizador” y “le van a entregar el país a las Farc”.
Con semejante niveles de estulticia, el periodismo sirve a los propósitos de lo que se conoce como el uribismo, que no es nada más que el conjunto de prácticas dolosas, engañosas, maliciosas y mafiosas (Ethos mafioso) derivadas o asociadas a la vida pública de Álvaro Uribe Vélez. Por esa vía, el periodismo que hacen o practican en los noticieros nombrados, a los que se suma el de El Tiempo y Semana, claramente está al servicio del criminal establecimiento colombiano.
Este periodismo militante, al servicio de la derecha y la ultraderecha, constituye un remedo de lo que deontológicamente se espera que se haga desde “el oficio más bello del mundo” según Albert Camus. Y consecuentemente, los que escriben e informan desde esas casas periodísticas no pueden llamarse periodistas. Son también un calco, un remedo o una imitación. Son en el mejor de los casos estafetas, amanuenses, mandaderos o pendolistas.
Así las cosas, el para qué del periodismo se expone con claridad: para servirles a los poderosos y por esa vía engañar a las audiencias, en particular a los millones de ignorantes, indoctos e ignaros que creyeron y aún creen no solo en lo que dicen aquellos estafetas, sino en lo que las fuentes oficiales salen a vociferar al mediodía o en la noche.
No pueden ser más miserables e inconvenientes esas circunstancias en las que opera el periodismo colombiano, en aras de buscar la verdad y generar una opinión pública crítica y capaz de comprender la complejidad de lo que sucede en este país. Para fortuna de los sectores sociales que gozan de un capital social y cultural que les permite dudar y controvertir los hechos noticiosos y la realidad política, existen las redes sociales, blogueros y medios alternativos. Espacios que crecen y se fortalecen cada día más, a pesar de las afugias económicas de sus editores y responsables.
Le corresponde a la Academia, en particular a los profesores y estudiantes de las facultades de periodismo y comunicación social, analizar los tratamientos que vienen dando esos periodistas oficialistas, afectos al régimen de Duque. Esa tarea analítica debe servir a varios propósitos: 1. Demostrar con suficiencia que efectivamente hay periodistas estafetas al servicio de los poderosos. 2. Responder a la pregunta que echó a rodar Gómez Pinilla, y decidir si al terminar de estudiar la carrera quieren parecerse a esos vedettes que optaron por venderse al mejor postor. Y 3. Consolidar la condición de ciudadano que suelen obviar los periodistas y los estudiantes de periodismo, al creer que dejando de actuar como tales, informarán con <<objetividad>>.
Quizás el conseguir dinero y fama sea lo que motive a tantos periodistas a ser estafetas o correveidiles. Podrán lograr eso y quizás una embajada y millonarios contratos, pero jamás tendrán el reconocimiento como verdaderos periodistas, acuciosos, serios y responsables con su país, de esa parte de la sociedad que de tiempo atrás sabe que actúan como periodistas incorporados. Al final, dejo esta pregunta para los estudiantes de periodismo: ¿Quieren ser amanuenses del poder… o ser realmente una forma de poder?
