¿Cuál es el tema que está comentando hoy la mayoría de la gente? ¿Cómo es que ese tema se convirtió en asunto prioritario de discusión? ¿Y cuánta información, qué tan completa y qué tan veraz, está manejando la gente cuando conversa sobre ese tema?
Normalmente, la conversación de la gente sobre algún tema es más o menos así:
— ¿Cómo le parece lo de … en “tal parte”, y lo que dijo “fulanito”?
— ¡Terrible…! ¿A dónde iremos a llegar? A mí no me parece bien…
— ¡Es que eso siempre ha sido así…! Y…
Y de repetir ambas personas las mismas dos cosas y desaprobarlas ambas (o aprobarlas, según el caso), el asunto no pasa, porque da la casualidad que las dos personas tienen la misma fuente de “información”, y les fue presentada del mismo modo, así que no hay mucho avance en el análisis del asunto. ¿Y cómo obtuvieron esa “información”?

Generalmente, la gente se levanta y pone la radio o la televisión, para enterarse de cómo anda el mundo, para estar informados. Es una necesidad básica de todo ser vivo tener información de su entorno, pues de ello depende su bienestar, su vida misma. En el caso de los humanos esta necesidad ha ido un paso más allá, pues además de la información vital aprendimos a necesitar una información social, cultural, económica, etc.
Así que una persona se despierta con su mente fresca, después de la depuración que hizo el sueño, y va por su dosis mañanera de información, y recibe lo mismo que reciben todos los que sintonizan la misma emisora o el mismo canal. A partir de ahí su mente ya empieza a ser dirigida por los que se han dado en llamar “formadores de opinión”. Parafraseando un refrán, “¿Qué piensa la gente? Lo que le dice Vicente”.
De interés: La verdadera libertad
¿Y quiénes son estos “formadores de opinión”? Los grandes medios de comunicación, que pertenecen a los grandes emporios económicos y, por lo tanto, dicen lo que conviene a sus intereses corporativos y personales. Podría decirse que, más que “formadores de opinión”, son “conductores del pensamiento”.
La mayoría de la gente no sale de sus casas sino para ir al trabajo o estudio, y allí se encuentra con otras personas que están en similar situación, igualmente mal informados sobre lo que ocurre en el país, así que todos terminan revolviendo la misma agua sucia que les han dado. Por tanto, repiten como loros los mismos conceptos y sobre los mismos temas. Es como si desde los medios les dijeran «Bueno, gente, hoy hay que pensar únicamente sobre “esto” y hay que mirarlo “de este modo”»; es absolutamente patético.
Cuando uno ha recorrido el país real y ha conversado con quienes viven las situaciones que los medios distorsionan a diario, llega a darse cuenta de que lo han estado engañando, porque las cosas no son como ellos dicen. Entonces deja de tragar entero, y va formando un sano escepticismo y una opinión propia sobre los asuntos; entonces empieza uno a ver el cuadro completo y a entender cómo es que el agua mueve el molino.

Por estos días se ha despertado en las redes informáticas un reclamo indignado porque los grandes canales no mostraron las agresiones que el ESMAD hizo a los maestros que marchaban en forma absolutamente pacífica, pero sí viven a diario armando escándalo porque en Venezuela el gobierno agrede a los manifestantes. Y el reclamo de la gente es justo: “Dejen que los venezolanos solucionen sus asuntos y solucionemos nosotros los nuestros”.
Pero parte de la estrategia mediática es justamente ocupar la cabeza de la gente con “información chatarra” para que no tenga tiempo de pensar en las cosas que realmente le competen, para que no vea cómo es que la están sojuzgando y oprimiendo.
Una pequeña muestra del doble rasero que siempre utilizan estos mal llamados periodistas (aunque trabajen en los más grandes medios y ganen premios nacionales) es cómo desde antes de posesionarse Gustavo Petro como Alcalde empezaron una campaña de dudas, y una vez posesionado empezaron a exigirle grandes e inmediatas soluciones a problemas que tiene la Capital desde hace décadas, y cuando “se veían obligados a reconocer” alguno de sus logros lo hacían en voz baja, dedicándole dos minutos, y luego contraponían en voz alta alguno de los asuntos que todavía faltaban por resolver. Sin embargo, año y medio después de estar “gerenciando” el Alcalde que ellos ayudaron a elegir, cada vez que tienen que reconocer que no se ha solucionado algún problema serio, lo hacen en voz baja y terminan diciendo “hay que darle tiempo al Alcalde”; tiempo que nunca le dieron a Petro.

Hemos conocido últimamente varios casos en Colombia en los que periodistas fueron despedidos de sus trabajos por destapar escándalos que afectan a los grandes (como la campaña mentirosa por el NO, la Comunidad del Anillo, etc.), y sabemos que han asesinado muchos periodistas en fechas recientes (la mayoría de tales muertes quedan impunes), sin embargo seguimos repitiendo que acá hay “libertad de prensa” y “libertad de expresión” (aunque ella solo signifique libertad para repetir como loro lo que me dicen que diga). No discutiré aquí qué tanto esto es así, porque me importa más la otra incógnita de la ecuación: “¿Existe libertad de pensamiento?”
Y, como siempre, la llevo al plano personal, que es el único ámbito en el que podemos actuar con soberanía, aunque resulte difícil: ¿Disfruta usted de verdadera libertad de pensamiento? ¿Tiene fuentes de información diferentes a los grandes medios? ¿Es capaz de reconocer, entre el discurso amañado de tales medios, los trucos que utilizan para inducirle a pensar de uno o de otro modo? ¿Qué está haciendo, concretamente, para liberar su mente de tantas falacias mediáticas?
¿De qué sirve una supuesta libertad de expresión si se tiene el pensamiento secuestrado?
