Como un procónsul del imperio romano visitó nuestro país el Secretario de Estado de los Estados Unidos, Mike Pompeo. Según las informaciones de prensa los temas tratados con el gobierno colombiano fueron cultivos ilícitos y el tráfico de coca; el caso Venezuela, al considerar al gobierno de ese país como riesgo de seguridad nacional para los Estados Unidos y la región y, el terrorismo como instrumento de acción política.
Para este último tema se realizó en Colombia la III Conferencia Ministerial Hemisférica de Lucha contra el Terrorismo a la que asistieron representantes de 20 países del hemisferio. Al final de esta reunión que fue privada “se emitió una declaración de 24 puntos en la cual se destacó el rechazo, de manera tajante, a cualquier forma de terrorismo y se expresó que “no es admisible justificar o validar” este flagelo “como medio de acción política en la democracia”.”
Hay que decir que, esta es la forma que toma la confrontación con el gobierno de Venezuela de las “democracias” de América, encabezadas por los Estados Unidos. Es la estrategia para aislar y justificar la intervención contra el gobierno de un país que no es incondicional con las políticas económicas del gran capital.
Porque, independientemente de que alguien o algunos apoyen o condenen el régimen de Maduro en Venezuela, el principio de la autodeterminación de las naciones, como fundamento toral de las relaciones entre países soberanos, debe respetarse. Son los pueblos de cada país ejerciendo la libre autodeterminación los encargados de definir su forma de gobierno y, en ese sentido deben ser los venezolanos quienes resuelvan sus diferencias actuales, como tendrán que hacerlo en su perspectiva histórica.
Así es en los tiempos presentes, donde en la disputa ahora con China, los EE.UU. ha diseñado una política de contención frente a las grandes inversiones que la potencia económica de Oriente ha venido realizando en varios países de la región. Según declaraciones de Mauricio Claver-Carone, principal asesor de Trump para América Latina y director para la región del Consejo de Seguridad Nacional de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump desea que América Latina se beneficie de la prosperidad de Estados Unidos y fomente fuertes lazos económicos y de inversión bilaterales en lugar de apostar por unas relaciones con China que solo dejarán en la región «dependencia, deuda y corrupción».”
Volvemos a la disputa geopolítica donde a los intereses de las grandes potencias se supeditan los intereses superiores de nuestros pueblos. Pero, lo más peligroso es que podemos terminar como teatro de guerra de sus confrontaciones, donde el sufrimiento, la destrucción y la muerte las pondremos nosotros.
