Cerca de 150 hectáreas de la zona de reserva, de ambos lados del cauce del río sobre la cuenca del río Las Ceibas, resultaron afectadas por un incendio forestal, que duró más 36 horas, ocurrido en la vereda El Motilón, sector rural del municipio de Neiva.
La emergencia, atendida por el equipo técnico del Proyecto Ceibas de la CAM, el Grupo de Brigadistas Voluntarios Forestales, el Cuerpo de Bomberos de Neiva, la Secretaría de Gobierno Municipal, la Dirección de Desarrollo Rural, la Defensa Civil y la comunidad en general, se originó por la ola de calor que impera sobre la región..
Los Brigadistas Voluntarios Forestales capacitados y equipados por la CAM, ayudaron a controlar el incendio de forma eficaz y de manera segura; sin embargo, las condiciones climáticas como los fuertes vientos dificultaron el trabajo para combatir el fuego.
Las autoridades investigan si realmente el incendio fue provocado, como hasta el momento se ha conocido.
EVITAR QUEMAS CONTROLADAS
La CAM ha emitió la Resolución No. 1447 de 2014 que restringe quemas abiertas en el Huila, y continuamente divulga boletines para sensibilizar a la población sobre estas prácticas, que propician incendios forestales, debido a las altas temperaturas del ambiente y los fuertes vientos que se registran en esta segunda temporada seca del año.
La Corporación recomienda a la población evitar quemas abiertas controladas que con facilidad provocan este tipo de conflagraciones con funesto impacto ambiental en la flora, la fauna, el recurso hídrico y la biodiversidad.
LAS SANCIONES
Es por esto que el proceso sancionatorio se aplica para quienes generen y provoquen incendios forestales conforme a lo establecido en la Ley 1333 de 2009 y penales conforme lo estipula el Código Penal, dependiendo de la gravedad de la afectación.
Las sanciones podrán ir de 1 a 5 mil salarios mínimos legales vigentes, y las penales las define la Fiscalía en caso que de identificarse como delito ambiental.
