El tradicional Rabo de Gallo, es prenda de las festividades del San Pedro en el Huila, no muy mentada por quien lo usa, pero indispensable en la composición del traje fiestero de la época de mediados de año, que ostentan vanidosos hombres y mujeres, jóvenes y adultos, tiene su antecedente: El Chircate.
El nombre es de los aborígenes colombianos, muy útil para habitantes del campo hasta mediados del siglo pasado, en los más diversos usos de hombres y mujeres trabajadoras y ocupadas en los menesteres rurales.
Aunque en los festejos del San Pedro a finales de junio, en regiones como el Huila, es una prenda indispensable, muy difícilmente autoridades de cultura, trabajadores de Medios de Comunicación, investigadores, historiadores, Periodistas o Comunicadores Sociales, se interesen por develar el origen del Rabo de Gallo. Por fortuna la Gestora Cultural de Pitalito, María Leonor Valencia, presidenta de la Fundación para el desarrollo de Actividades Culturales – TIERRAVIVA – investigó sobre los antecedentes del Rabo de Gallo y revela los detalles.
