Varias técnicas investigativas y la recopilación de suficiente información fueron determinantes para encontrar y atacar a Walter Patricio Arizala alias Guacho, uno de los hombres más buscaros por las autoridades de Colombia y Ecuador. Era el jefe de la disidencia Oliver Sinisterra de las FARC y el principal responsable del secuestro y posterior asesinato del equipo periodístico del diario El Comercio de Ecuador.

Fuente oficiales que ejecutaron la Operación David manifestaron que a este disidente venían siguiéndole el rastro a tal punto de obtener los datos necesarios de los entornos en que se movía. De esta manera, explicaron, agruparon 15 fuentes humanas que lograron llegar hasta los principales escondites de Guacho y lograron, además, detectar sus rutas de escape en zonas rurales de Tumaco y poblaciones fronterizas.

De igual manera, interceptaron más de 120 líneas telefónicas y su información fue analizada, lo que permitió encontrar y vigilar 16 puntos que frecuentaba Guacho. Uno de esos puntos era la vereda Peña Cataño, sector de Llorente, en cercanías a Tumaco (Nariño), donde cayó finalmente en operación ejecutada por la Fuerzas Militares, la Policía y la Fiscalía. Arizala murió junto a uno de sus hombres de confianza.

«Podemos confirmar que alias Guacho cayó en una operación. Ha sido abatido por los héroes de Colombia», dijo ayer el presidente Iván Duque, en una declaración desde Medellín en donde estuvo acompañado del fiscal general, Néstor Humberto Martínez, y del ministro de Defensa, Guillermo Botero.

El jefe de las disidencias de las FARC había nacido hace 29 años en la localidad de Limones, que hace parte de la provincia ecuatoriana de Esmeraldas, en donde trabajó como comerciante   minorista hasta que en julio de 2007 fue reclutado por la hoy desmovilizada guerrilla de las FARC. En esas filas estuvo 11 años desde que ingresó al Frente 29 de la entonces guerrilla y se convirtió en jefe de finanzas de la columna móvil Daniel Aldana, de la que posteriormente fue el jefe principal.

Durante las negociaciones de paz del Gobierno con las FARC, Arizala estuvo concentrado en la Zona Veredal Transitoria de Normalización de El Playón, a unos pocos kilómetros de Tumaco. Sin embargo, a comienzos de 2017 por desacuerdos con Henry Castellanos Garzón, alias Romaña, desertó y creó el autodenominado Frente Oliver Sinisterra, y se convirtió en la cara visible de las disidencias, según las autoridades.

“Teníamos fuertes elementos que nos permitían saber en qué sectores estaban delinquiendo. El ingreso a la zona, en silencio, camuflados y escondidos, nuestros militares y políticas permitieron acercarse hasta la zona del delincuente y enfrentarse contra nosotros (…). No podemos decir que queda completamente calmado el orden público en la región, pero sí hemos avanzado mucho en las condiciones de seguridad”. Precisó el general Óscar Atehortúa, director de la Policía.

Las fuentes también manifestaron que las comunicaciones de Guacho con sus subalternos facilitaron la ubicación y destrucción de laboratorios de producción de droga. Además, que los continuos ataques afectaron sus finanzas y obligó a contactar otras organizaciones ajenas a su círculo de confianza. Y afirman que estas labores continúan para dar con la captura la cadena de colaboradores y auxiliadores de este disidente.

“Este es un mensaje para todos aquellos fue están por fuera del marco de la ley para que contribuyan y se sometan a la justicia, para que se entreguen a los programas de reinserción, para que no sigan delinquiendo. Realmente fue nefasto lo que hizo este sujeto con los periodistas, con las personas que estaban cautivas y que fueron asesinadas. Era como un mito, pero finalmente hay algunas personas a las que tememos que seguir atacando”, precisó el general Nicasio de Jesús Martínez, comandante del Ejército Nacional.
