Un total de 64 niños de las 32 veredas pertenecientes al Parque Natural Regional Corredor Biológico Guácharos – Puracé, harán parte del grupo Guardianes del Bosque que implementará la Corporación Autónoma Regional del Alto Magdalena – CAM a través del equipo de Áreas Protegidas.
Esta será una experiencia piloto, con la que se espera capacitar a los menores en varios temas ambientales como fauna y flora de la zona, conservación, importancia de los servicios ecosistémicos del sur del Huila, así como incentivar el respeto y amor por los recursos naturales de la región.
Adicionalmente los niños serán apadrinados por las ONG ambientales existentes dentro del Parque Natural Regional.
Jennifer Dayana Anacona, guardián del bosque de la vereda El Cedro de Pitalito, señaló que el programa es importante para los menores, ya que en su caso, el objetivo es cuidar los animales, los árboles y los ecosistemas del sur del departamento.
