La decisión de líderes campesinos de Acevedo, Huila, frenó silenciosa arremetida, contra la importante reserva natural Sierra Peñas Blancas que se yergue, sobre la estribación occidental de la cordillera Oriental a su paso por varios municipios del sur huilense.
Los voceros agrarios dejaron el temor y acudieron a la administración municipal, donde fueron escuchados y procedió a exigir la intervención de la autoridad ambiental, para suspender la acción devastadora en El Silencio, la zona de reserva natural, básica para la supervivencia de la vida humana, fauna y flora.
LA DENUNCIA
La afectación ecológica que denunció la comunidad se concretó en la tala rasa en más de 20.000 metros cuadrados dispuesta por la Compañía Hass – Colombia Paradise SAS para el establecimiento de un cultivo de aguacate Hass.
La tala indiscriminada eliminó toda la vegetación arbórea, arbustiva y de rastrojo bajo, afectando la zona protectora de la quebrada La Marimba, abastecedora del acueducto regional Santa Ana, que cuenta con más de 80 familias asentadas en las localidades de: Santa Ana, Cantarito, El Silencio, Palmito, La Unión, La Marimba y el Distrito Regional de Manejo Integrado Serranía de Peñas Blancas.
Ese daño ecológico lo verificó una visita técnica de la Dirección Territorial Sur de la Corporación Autónoma Regional del Alto Magdalena, que constató el daño denunciado por la comunidad campesinos, donde verificó el corte indiscriminado de varios árboles de especies como: Jiquimillo (montanoa quadrangularis sch.), Yarumo (Cecropia peltata), Arrayan (Luma apiculata) Cedro Rosado (Cedrela odorata), Moquillo (Sarauia ursima tr) y Manzano de Montaña (Clethra sp), distribuidos a lo largo de la zona intervenida, que alberga importantes nacimientos de agua por lo que se considera importante para la supervivencia de la biodiversidad de fauna y flora.
La dirección General de la CAM reconoció la oportuna denuncia de la comunidad campesina y, el alcance de la reunión con el Alcalde y el Concejo Municipal para adelantar el proceso técnico y jurídico que permitió ordenar la suspensión inmediata de toda actividad que, altere las condiciones naturales y de importancia ecológica, por parte de la Compañía Hass-Colombia Paradise SAS por las infracciones ambientales encontradas en la vereda el Silencio de Acevedo.
